Video poker is a reasonably simple game that just about anyone can sink their teeth into, but Microgaming is the developer to play with if you like something a little different from the norm. Double Bonus Poker is just such a game, that modifies the action of games like Jacks or Better in order to come up with a somewhat different format and enhanced prize winning capabilities.
Looks wise, the game makes it a little difficult to see exactly what the difference is. The same blue background and bold card graphics continue to appear but, as with most video poker variations, the differences are to be found within the pay table. The hand rankings are the same and there are no wild cards, meaning a standard 52 card deck, but the prizes that these hands are worth are where the action gets better, particularly when four of a kind is involved. Indeed, this is the biggest difference on this game as certain cards are better when four land at once, with aces understandably being at the top of the pile. Indeed, four aces with a five coin bet are worth a massive 800 coins, more than three times as much as even a straight flush. Twos, threes and fours are also enhanced, with other cards also being particularly valuable when landing in a quartet.
As with most Microgaming video poker titles, the game also offers the opportunity to gamble any win in a separate game, where players must find a card higher in value than the one displayed. There’s also the opportunity to take one draw after the cards are dealt in an attempt to improve your hand.
